Writing a Good Curriculum Vitae - Formats and Samples

A curriculum vitae is used all over the world and the job seekers commence the market search armed with curriculum vitae. In short, it is referred to as CV. The curriculum vitae are used for applying in academic, educational, scientific and research openings. Also, curriculum vitae are particularly useful, when applying for a student aid or fellowship.

While on a job hunt in continents such as Asia, Middle East and Europe, the job seekers are required to submit curriculum vitae. The resume is often not asked for. Some critical information is furnished in curriculum vitae, such as place of birth, date of birth and nationality. The demands of the employers outside USA may not be eligible everywhere.

There are notable differences between a resume and curriculum vitae. The curriculum vitae are a lengthy extension of your work experience and education. It lists your background and skills more appropriately.

The curriculum vitae contain a chronology of the educational and academic backgrounds and also mentions:
  • Publications
  • Presentations
  • Research experience
  • Awards
  • Honors
  • Affiliates
The curriculum vitae can differ and depend according to the kind of position applied for.
The curriculum vitae contain:
  • Candidate’s name
  • Contact information
  • Teaching experience
  • Fellowships
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Grants
  • Licenses
  • Professional associations
The background information must be organized and assembled. Then, organize it into categories. The publications must be dated.

Read before you write

It is advisable to take a long look at sample curriculum vitae before you start your own. The internet is a veritable mine of sample curriculum vitae.

Proof reading curriculum vitae

Curriculum Vitae

There should not be a single error or a grammatical mistake in your curriculum vitae. A single mistake on the front page can straight away knock you off the job contention.  That being said, proof read the curriculum vitae before submitting it to an organization.

Two pages are enough

Two pages ofcurriculum vitae are enough for a potential employer. The employer will be persuaded if the candidate is eligible enough. The employers are busy people and have a huge pile of candidates to look over. They cannot afford to read five or six pages of curriculum vitae. The information provided must be concrete enough and solid to get the ball rolling.

The more those two pages are congested with career highlights, the more inclined the employer is to give you a call. Sometimes, less information is more adequate. ( You should look at my resume templates post )
